As a Scrum Master, you might be feeling curious about AI and wondering where to begin your journey.
You're not alone.
The Agile world is evolving with AI, and as a Scrum Master, you’re at the forefront of that change. But how will AI shape how Agile teams work, and what does it mean for your role?
Let me tell you upfront: NO ONE has a definite answer.
However!
Many teams have started taking a scientific approach to find the answer.
Last week, I shared the findings of one such experiment conducted at the company I am currently engaged with. If you haven’t yet read that post, here’s the link:
How AI Will Transform The Agile World?
One thing is absolutely clear:
Everyone who is a knowledge worker is currently exploring AI.
This post is the start of our exploration. I am starting with the introduction of the two types of AI technologies you need to know about:
Generative AI
Agentic AI
These technologies will not replace you as a Scrum Master. Let me clarify this at the start. They’ll empower you to work smarter (I know you’ve heard this many times now, but bear with me…)
In this post, I’ll break down:
The difference between Generative AI and Agentic AI
How will these technologies fit into Agile practices
The changes they will bring to your role
The AI tools that are currently being used by Agile teams
This post presents insights and findings based on current events in the AGILE + AI space worldwide. The links to the researched sites are included at the end of the post.
The future of Agile is full of possibilities.
Let’s take the first step together.
What is Generative AI?
You’ve probably heard the buzz around Chatgpt, Gemini, and other Generative AI tools. But what exactly is Generative AI?
Generative AI is a type of AI that “creates content” based on prompts.
Content such as:
text
images/videos/audio
code
The key characteristic that defines Generative AI is that it's REACTIVE.
It waits for you to ask something. Only then does it generate a response.
Emphasis on “Only then…”
It's a super-smart assistant that can write, analyze, and create, but only when specifically asked to do so.
It lacks initiative.
