Over the years, I've had the pleasure of working with many Delivery Leads. Some were truly competent, others kept everything well-organized, and a few were genuinely talented. Each brought something special to the table!
And then there was Max.
Max was the Delivery Lead on a platform team I collaborated with many years ago. When I first joined the organization, people spoke about him with a kind of reverence that seemed excessive for someone in a coordination role. “You should talk to Max about that,” they’d say, or “Max would know how to handle this.” I thought it was just office shenanigans… someone who’d been around long enough to build a reputation.
Then I watched him work through a dependency crisis, and I understood.
What I’m sharing here is a series of lessons I learned from Max on Dependency Management. You won’t find these in a book. They’re practices I watched someone execute with remarkable effectiveness.
Let me tell you about this software release that started everything.
