For a long time, I believed that PRESENCE was something you either had or you didn't. Like being naturally funny, some people just got lucky in the genetic lottery.
The year was 2012.
I was an Agile Coach, and this (false) belief was costing me dearly.
I would walk into team meetings feeling unprepared. I had done my homework, but I hadn't prepared MYSELF. My mind was still scattered from emails, and my energy was more reactive than intentional.
And it showed!
People around could feel it. I could feel it.
Those were the days when I felt like I was working twice as hard for half the impact.
Until this one day.
I was mentoring a new Scrum Master who seemed to have this natural ability to create instant rapport with his new team. After watching him facilitate a few difficult sessions effortlessly, I had to ask:
"How do you always seem so... present?"
Honesty, I didn’t know what to ask. Which question could help me get the right answer? So I asked whatever came to my mind.
"I don't wing my mornings anymore. I have a system."
His answer surprised me.
Anyway, that conversation led me down a rabbit hole of research about how top performers start their days.
Harvard Business Review found that 92% of highly productive people follow planned morning routines, explaining,
They don't just get ready for work. They get ready to lead.
In this post, I’ll walk you through my morning routine and how it can transform the way you lead.
Let’s get started.
